About Baayen & Associates Appraisers

In 1979, Baayen and Associates Limited was founded as a family business by Hendrik and Johanna Baayen, and was based in Cobourg, Ontario. In 1991, Baayen & Associates Appraisers in Peterborough was formed by Karel Baayen and began as a small residential appraisal office. It has grown steadily over the years to become a full service appraisal firm that now includes five appraisers and one research assistant. We’re well known in the central and eastern Ontario regions and we specialize in residential, cottage, farm, commercial, industrial and institutional valuations. Our clients include financial institutions, all levels of government, corporations, law firms and private individuals. Our commitment is to provide accurate, well-researched and objective reports in a timely manner.

Hendrik Baayen, AACI, P.App (Ret.), SRPA, SRA, PLE

Hendrik has been a member of The Appraisal Institute of Canada since 1965. He achieved his CRA and AACI designations in the seventies and his SRPA (US) in 1991. Hendrik has held several positions with local and national offices of the Institute including President of the Ontario Association. He had sixteen years of experience as commercial mortgage underwriter with major financial institutions.

Karel Baayen, B.SC., AACI, P.App

Karel has been a member of the Appraisal Institute since 1988. He achieved the CRA designation in 1994 and the AACI designation in 1996. Karel has held several positions with the Appraisal Institute including Chapter Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary, as well as being a mentor to several candidates. He founded Baayen & Associates Appraisers in 1991, carrying on the tradition begun by Hendrik and Johanna Baayen. Karel has extensive experience in all types of real estate, specializing in commercial and industrial property valuations.

Marek-Langiewicz-smMarek Langiewicz

Marek was born in Warsaw, Poland and in 1991, emigrated to Canada. He completed a 3-year business diploma in International Trade at Sir Sanford Fleming College. In 2004, Marek joined the Appraisal Institute of Canada and began a career in real estate appraisal working with Baayen & Associates Appraisers. Currently Marek is in the final stages of completing his CRA designation, enjoying the work and interaction with both financial institutions and property owners.

Stephen-Cairns-smStephen Cairns

Stephen is a Candidate working with Baayen & Associates Appraisers as a residential appraiser. He has over 12 years experience in the appraisal field and continues to strive to excel. He currently serves as Secretary for the Peterborough/Lindsay Chapter of the Appraisal Institute of Canada. Other educational expertise includes market analysis, economics, construction, report writing, and forest/land management. He lives with his family on a local horse hobby farm.

Ken Seim, CRA

Ken has had a 35-year career in Land Management with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, including 24 years in north-west Ontario in places like Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake. He moved to Peterborough in 1999, working in several positions in Land Management including responsibility for obtaining market value for the use/sale of Crown land across the province. Later, he played a key role on the Ontario team for the Algonquin Land Claim. Ken received his CRA designation in 2000 and is presently the co-chair of the Peterborough-Lindsay Chapter of the Appraisal Institute of Canada.

Marc-Cowin-smMarc Cowin

Marc is a member of AIC, and a Candidate Appraiser with the firm, currently working towards his CRA designation through UBC. He comes to us with an extensive background of 20+ years in sales and marketing in the Canadian and U.S. manufacturing sectors, and an additional 5 years of management in the retail industry. Marc’s experience in large, medium, and small business make him very adept at working with all aspects of data-gathering and statistical analysis, with excellent communication and customer services skills.
